NUCLEAR MEDICINE

Through the use of small amounts of radioactive injection, Nuclear medicine gathers information about both structure and function of the body. Nuclear scanning provides identification of abnormalities or disease that would otherwise require surgery for such identification. Among the nuclear scanning procedures available at Maine Centers for Health are:

• Liver
• Spleen
• Thyroid imaging
• Bone
• Stress tests
  

Cancellations: 24-hour notice is required for all cancelled nuclear appointments. The radioactive injections are purchased the night before an exam and are very costly. This medication cannot be utilized on another patient.  It is our policy that if an appointment is not cancelled 24-hours prior to the appointment, a $100.00 charge will be billed to the patient.
